People get so upset about dead boys.

“Something is killing all of our boys!” I heard a woman cry out yesterday at the grocery store. It’s an exaggeration, of course. Not all of them.

Persephone and I are tucked safely in our clearing in the forest preserve leaning against moss covered trunks under a canopy of trees and winking stars beginning to appear in the dusk sky. The echoes of a bonfire ring in the center of our private sanctuary call me. But I ignore them. It’s almost past the curfew set by the town council. But we aren’t afraid. Not anymore.
