Shades of Me
by Jessica Ashby
My body is not your playground
Or a free ride for your pleasure
It's a garden of forested realms
Places you want to explore, places I've traveled alone
Mountainous curves against milky flesh
Grooves of white stretched among my stomach as life
flourished within me
It's a work of art that's been painted over time
Do not damage the canvas with dirty fingerprints of arrogance
Respect the artist as she worked very hard to create a
masterpiece
Of which she can be proud.
Jessica Ashby is a salon receptionist, wife, and mother of three and currently resides in Tennessee with her family. She loves to read, write, and spend time in nature. Jessica finds literary creativity in the works of her favorite authors such as Francesca Lia Block and Wally Lamb.

“Terrified, and…”
by Kristina James
What I take to be a Roman soldier yanks her head by her hair. His other hand holds the blade of his short sword to her throat. Her family and community of elders tied to their own sacred grove and set alight, howling in living death as she's forced to watch.
